I am happy to say that this is not an election where we are obliged to choose between the lesser of evils. The Governorship is an executive position and Walker's record as Milwaukee County Executive is exemplary, particularly when you consider the liberal makeup of the County Board that he must work with. Here are some of the reasons that I believe Scott Walker should receive our support as the next Governor of Wisconsin:

Constitutional Seminar a Success

Making of America SeminarI've been meaning to post this for nearly a week now but it is amazing how "life" gets in the way of blogging. Last Saturday the Fox Valley Initiative hosted a "Making of America" constitutional seminar at Fox Banquets in downtown Appleton. The speaker was Earl Taylor, the President of the National Center for Constitutional Studies. I coordinated the effort to bring the seminar to the Fox Valley along with FVI founder Jim Steineke. Our belief is that Americans are hungry for knowledge about the principles that founded this great country and they will make the right decisions for themselves when properly educated and informed. There's no need for a single leader of the Tea Party movement when the masses are empowered with this knowledge.

Although I was helping to organize the event, I had never had the privilege of attending one of these seminars before. I had been told by others who had that Earl was a great speaker and that the entire seminar was nothing short of magic. They were right. Earl was very passionate and knowledgeable about the Constitution. He has to be given that he is not compensated for his speaking. The small fee for the seminar is just enough to cover his travel expenses. This didn't stop him from giving a powerful presentation that seemed just as fresh as it must have been the first time he ever delivered it.

An amazingly long list of misconceptions about government and history were covered in just a single day. The Founders were brilliant, educated, pious men and their vision for this country was laid out before us. Those attending were captivated and enthusiastic to share what they learned with others. Here is just one of the e-mails that we received after the seminar:

I had the pleasure of attending the Fox Valley Initiative sponsored NCCS seminar this weekend, and I can't tell you how grateful I am that I took the time to attend this event. I learned of the seminar from the NCCS website, and before attending the seminar, I had already completed reading "The Five Thousand Year Leap", "The Making of America", "The Real Thomas Jefferson", and "The Real Ben Franklin", I am currently reading "The Real George Washington", all books distributed by NCCS. I attended for the primary reason of supporting your efforts and thought I was already well informed, I couldn't have been more wrong. It was a pleasure to hear Mr. Taylor speak, the knowledge he shared, his enthusiasm for the constitution, and his love for teaching and our country were truly inspiring. The fact that Mr. Taylor was able to keep 50 or 60 adults focused on his seminar about our country and constitution on a Saturday for 8 hours is truly amazing, and is representative of the importance of the information presented.

I wish you well in your work to spread the positive message of the importance of our freedoms and our constitution.

As I stated earlier, the seminar was held in the lower level of the beautiful Fox Banquets in downtown Appleton. My wife and I actually held our wedding reception there ten years ago so we knew the venue was top notch. Debra Michiels, the owner, was also gracious enough to donate the use of the facilities for the event at no cost. Very classy. We did include a small amount in each registration fee to cover the cost of lunch. To our surprise we were treated to a three course meal served by the staff at Fox Banquets. I can't stress enough how wonderful it was to host the event there.

The Fox Valley Initiative is hoping to host another seminar sometime in the future given the success of this first one. If you live outside of the northeastern portion of Wisconsin, I suggest finding a Making of America Seminar near you. You and your family will enjoy it and you will feel empowered.

Post Office should Privatize

Private companies, driven by profit, have incentive to run tighter ships and are (relatively) free from bureaucratic government interference.
